I usually dislike coming-of-age themed fiction but I really enjoyed this book. The narrator's voice is so strong, and so real, that it pulled me into the story and kept me there. Other than the coming-of-age thing, the story hard to classify. It's not Science Fiction, but Science Fiction is the lens the narrator uses to see the world so there is a lot of talk about 1970's Science Fiction. I'm just a few years older than the narrator so the books she is reading in her mid-teens I was reading in college, which gave a nice nostalgic undertone to the story for me. This is not a traditional fantasy story either, although there is magic and there are faries.
There are a few things that bothered me about the plot, but I can't go into them without spoilers and the book is to good a read to be spoil.
Cincinnati Museum Center A nice Museum in one of the most wonderful Art Deco buildings in the world. It has a special place in my heart because I met my husband in the basement of the Natural History Museum.
